Streamers and Content Creators - Watch out for Reverse Gatekeeping!

Finding success in Streaming and Content Creation can be difficult. It is hard to know exactly what to do and how to correct things if they are not going the way you want. In this week's podcast, we talk about REVERSE GATEKEEPING which essentially means telling someone that they will succeed if they do exactly what you say. It's different from gatekeeping as you aren't withholding information, you are saying you are the only source of truth. It's also different from gaslighting which refers to a form of manipulation where an individual or group makes someone question their own memory, perception, or sanity.  

Reverse Gatekeeping can be problematic for a few reasons:

1. It implies that the person cannot succeed on their own, and that they need to rely on the advice giver for guidance. This can be demeaning and can undermine the person's confidence and self-efficacy.
2. It can limit the person's creativity and critical thinking skills, as they may feel pressured to follow the advice exactly as given, rather than considering different options or coming up with their own solutions.
3. It can lead to a lack of ownership and accountability for the person's actions and decisions. If they do not succeed, they may blame the advice giver, rather than taking responsibility for their own choices.
4. It can create a dangerous dependency on the advice giver, and can be a form of manipulation or control.

It is important to give advice and guidance in a way that empowers the person to make their own decisions and take responsibility for the outcome, rather than giving a sense of command or control.
